Dr. Maryam Ghorbani, Associate Professor at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad’s Biomedical Engineering Department and Rayan Center for Neuroscience and Behaviour, was recently featured in an interview with the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) as part of their 10-year celebration of the Rising Stars Awards program. In the comprehensive interview, Dr. Ghorbani discusses her journey from completing postdoctoral research at UCLA to returning to Iran with IBRO Return Home Fellowship support to establish the neuroscience laboratory focused on sleep research. She shares insights about her groundbreaking work on sleep rhythms and memory consolidation, the challenges of building a research lab in Iran, and how IBRO’s support enabled her to overcome funding obstacles and inspire the next generation of Iranian neuroscientists, particularly female researchers in the field.
